Acura MDX

This artsy rendering is our first look at the 2014 Acura MDX concept, which will make its debut next month at the Detroit auto show. This teaser hints at the styling of the concept car, although it's worth noting that Acura 'concept' vehicles tend to be almost identical to the eventual production models.

Even though this line drawing doesn't show much, we already have a good idea what the 2014 Acura MDX looks like thanks to spy shots. As was the case with the redesigned Acura RDX crossover, the new MDX will probably adopt a tamer front 'beak' grille and more pronounced creases in the body-side sheetmetal. Spy shots have revealed LED taillights and the same 'Jewel Eye' LED headlights that will debut on the 2014 Acura RLX sedan.

Acura says the 2014 MDX uses 'Aero Sculpture' design language that is supposed to be both attractive and functional. Translation: the new crossover is far more aerodynamic, helping improve highway fuel economy. The company also promises its new model 'will feature alluring proportions with smooth, arching body lines.' Spy shots of the 2014 MDX are shown at right and below.

Under the hood, reports suggest the new MDX will employ the same direct-injected, 310-hp 3.5-liter V-6 engine as the RLX. Yet while the RLX will have a traditional six-speed automatic, we've previously reported that the MDX could introduce a new nine-speed automatic to the Acura range. The ZF-sourced transmission is reportedly suited to two- and four-wheel-drive configurations, making it ideal for a crossover like the MDX.

The flagship model could employ a hybrid all-wheel-drive system, similar to the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD drivetrain available in the 2014 RLX. It combines a V-6 engine with an integrated motor/generator, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and an electric motor at each rear wheel. It not only improves acceleration and fuel economy, but also allows for torque vectoring during cornering.

When the 2014 Acura MDX concept debuts at the Detroit show, expect it to look almost exactly like a production car. As noted, Honda and Acura tend to only change minor details like lights or wheels from the concept stage to real on-sale cars. The 2014 Acura MDX will go on sale by fall 2013.

Best SUVs That Are On The Market

The SUV market right now is huge, so buying the family hauler of your choice can be a bit overwhelming at times, so this list goes over the best new SUV's that meet the criteria for being fuel efficient, safe, practical, and over all a great value.

2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

South Korea has given us a lot of great things over the years, like Psy, but today they give us the all new 2013 Santa Fe Sport SUV.  Now, this is a great car for several reasons, but the best is that it is great value with prices starting at just 24,450 and the fully loaded model tops out at 29,450. Some other cool perks about the Santa Fe, is that no matter what model, or options you get, there all very well equipped, with the base model includes navigation  and Bluetooth  and the Top-Of-the-Line model induces a moon roof, leather, DVD system, headed & cooled cup holders some awesome wheels, the list goes on. While all of these things are nice on the inside, there's no doubt that this is a sexy looking car, and it actually looks pretty aggressive. So good looking, well equipped, and easy on the wallet? South Korea has done well.

2013 Toyota Sequoia

This rough and tough SUV is one of the only cars left on the road that still uses the body on frame construction.  Under the hood is a massive 5.7 lt engine that produces around 390 hp, not bad, for a Toyota. With a towing ability of over 8,500lbs, you know that this was not meant for just the day-to-day mall, and this car is quite capable off road as well, so if you're looking for a great SUV that has plenty of power, and enough room for eight people, this is your car.

2013 Chevy Suburban Ton

The all-time classic Chevy Suburban has been parked in drive-ways for over 70 years and there is no doubt that this is the best model they have ever made. For the 2013 model year you can get a 5.3L V8 that makes around 320hp, thats plenty of power to take your kids to the mall, or take your boat out of the lake. Not to mention this is a huge car, so sitting in the 3rdrow wont be as bad anymore. Over all, this all-American truck has been with us for over 70 years, and its more practical, safe, and reliable than ever before.

Audi Q7

For 2013 the Audi Q7 receives some slight power increases in the TDI diesel, and some minor features. The Q7 is unlike anything on this list, its a stunning example of what German engineering can do, with a advanced all-wheel-drive system that helps you control the 2-ton beast on the road when weather get nasty, and a extremely elegant interior that is on par with the likes of the A8. If you decide to go to your local Audi dealer today, you can get a choice of two engine options, a 3.0L Supercharged V6, or a 3.0L diesel engine that both have plenty of power to haul all of your kids to football practice, not to mention it comes with black wheels, so dad can enjoy the style, and mom can enjoy the practicality.

2013 Ford Explorer

Nothing to new for the 2013 model year. Base price starts at around $30,000, which is great value considering that it comes with Sync standard. Styling is a bit above par for the segment, although you are bound to see a few on the road that look exactly like yours. Even though its not the best SUV on the market right now, its actually a great car, in fact, I own this car. There is plenty room for all you your stuff, and a decent amount of power, not-so-bad looks, and great value. So if you need to fill your American car needs, look no further than the 2013 Ford Explorer

2013 Lexus LX

This off-road luxury SUV is one of the best on the market right now, with a V8 engine that makes around 382hp you should be able to tackle off of your day-to-day off road needs, but lets be honest, if you wanted a off-road SUV, you would get the Land Rover, so why is the LX on the list? Well for starters, it has one of the largest 2nd, and 3rd row seating available (right behind the massive QX46) it is also a very nice place to sit in, with a nicely set out dashboard, and a relaxing tone. So if you need a large V8 powered luxury SUV, this might be your car.

 2013 Infinity QX45

This is one beast of a car. While some people might not like its polarizing looks, its a that thinks outside of the box, with clever things like an A/C that makes the air outside smell better, and seats that are air-ventilated that never gets hot on those long summer road trips, or, a three way climate zone system so everybody is comfortable. While all these things are nice, the best part is knowing the V8 that powers it is a very reliable engine, with the last model considered one of the best SUVs of the time. So big, reasonably priced, and unique body style, makes this a SUV apart from the rest.
