Official: Fiat Unveils Larger and More Versatile 500L Ahead of its Geneva Debut

Fiat couldn't wait until the Geneva Motor Show to reveal its all-new 500L so it is giving us an early preview of its all-new sub-compact model. As you may have already guessed, the "L" in the name stands for "Large", with the 500L being the latest addition to the 500 range after the three-door hatch, the Cabrio and the Abarth models.
While the name and the styling (to some extent) refer to the 500 mini, the five-door 500L is based on the platform of the B-segment Punto measuring 4,140mm long, 1,780mm wide and 1,660mm tall. It is 594mm longer, 153mm wider and 175mm taller than the three-door 500.
The Italian company says the 500L offers "MPV passenger space combined with the feel of a small SUV on the road and the restrained dimensions and efficiency of a B segment car" and that it's an alternative to the traditional B and C segments.

Fiat 500 and 500C get New TwinAir 85HP Two-Cylinder Turbo Engine

Fiat has rolled out the production version of its long-awaited two-cylinder gasoline engine family called TwinAir that's has been developed by FPT (Fiat Powertrain Technologies). The first car to receive the new turbocharged engine is the Fiat 500, in both three-door and convertible forms, with sales to begin from September, 2010.

The innovative 0.9-liter two-cylinder gasoline unit implements several technologies, including a small-sized turbine, start and stop and the firm's MultiAir electro-hydraulic valve management system that reduces fuel consumption and emissions by controlling air directly via the inlet valves, without using the throttle.

Fiat says that compared with a medium-sized four-cylinder of equal performance, the new Twinair engine is significantly shorter (-23%) and lighter (-10%), while returning 30% lower fuel consumption.

Fiat 500 2012

Beautiful Italian styling combined with timeless functionality, efficient design and innovative technology these are the attributes that made the original Fiat 500 (Cinquecento) a timeless icon. More than 50 years later, the same qualities make the new 2012 Fiat 500 relevant for an entirely new generation of drivers.

The Fiat 500 has always been the right car at the right time, said Laura Soave, Head of Fiat Brand North America. The new Fiat 500 brings something truly unique to a fast-growing segment in America, delivering Italian-by-design function, value and efficiency intelligently tailored for our market.

Fiats successful small car formula worked then and still works now
Like the original Cinquecento, the new Fiat 500 showcases the brands ingenuity to build world-class small cars that ignite a spirit of the times through simple design, beautiful craftsmanship and timeless value. As a result, the Fiat 500 has continued to surprise and delight customers worldwide for more than 50 years.

Satisfying the individual mobility need for Italians and other Europeans after the Second World War, the original Fiat Nuova 500 became a catalyst in 1957 for the country of the poor but beautiful to be not quite as poor. With almost 4 million examples produced between 1957 and 1975, the small and efficient Fiat 500 succeeded in providing an affordable, comfortable and reliable transportation solution while helping to ignite Italys post-war economic recovery.

More than 50 years later, and thanks to its stylistic and modern technological features, the new Fiat 500 represents the spark of another milestone along the lasting process of expansion. And this is where history starts again.

The 2012 Fiat 500 caters to a new generation of Americans who want their vehicle to be as engaging, individualized, ecologically responsible and technologically savvy as they are.

Like the original Cinquecento a half-century ago, the new Fiat 500 changes the rules of personal transportation and delivers a new sense of individual expression and opportunity. At a time when America is getting back to basics with a fresh awareness of the environment around, the new Fiat 500 identifies with todays minimalistic attitude and delivers with state-of-the-art eco-friendly technology wrapped in world-class quality, craftsmanship and style, added Soave.

This modern-generation Fiat 500 offers safety, fuel economy, quality and advanced technology perfectly balanced with iconic Italian style. With its city-friendly four-passenger A-segment size, engaging driving dynamics, all-new fuel-efficient 1.4-liter Fiat MultiAir engine delivering up to 38 highway mpg and a best-in-class 30 mpg city (with manual transmission), state-of-the-art BLUE&ME Handsfree Communication technology, seven standard air bags and new quality and refinement adaptations for the U.S. market, including an all-new six-speed automatic transmission, the 2012 Fiat 500 offers a driving and ownership experience unlike anything available today.

Reminiscent of the original Cinquecento, the 2012 Fiat 500 builds on the vehicles global popularity. Since its initial launch in 2007, more than 500,000 Fiat 500 vehicles have been sold in more than 80 countries around the world. The models unquestionable popularity is the result of the Fiat 500s great ability to deliver unmatched personalization options with advanced solutions in terms of quality, engine and passenger comfort. In addition to success on the sales front, the Fiat 500 has earned 60 international awards, including being named the 2008 European Car of the Year.

Fiat Freemont 2012

The Fiat Freemont is the first Fiat vehicle to be produced in partnership with the Chrysler Group. Its very name evokes a sense of freedom, and the feeling that this vehicle can face up to any situation that every day life might bring. The Fiat Freemont has been designed to meet the diverse needs of families and clients seeking a spacious, comfortable and versatile vehicle to cater to the frenetic pace of everyday life. Further, to transport them safely and comfortably during their weekend leisure time. This vehicle combines flexibility and practicality with its own distinctive and original style. Its dimensions (489 cm in length, 188 cm wide and 169 cm high) ensure optimum internal space, thanks to the generous wheelbase of 289 cm.
In short, the Fiat Freemont is "All the car you want": this is the claim of the advertising campaign which succinctly sums up the vehicle's multi-faceted soul, equipped with everything you need to go where you want, with whoever you want, no compromises required.
Its characteristic design includes a strong and muscular front end and a rear which is distinguished by innovative LED tail lights. The interiors are modern with soft touch materials. Features include a wrap-around dashboard with chrome elements, a brand-new instrument panel, a striking center console and an innovative infotainment system with a 4.3" colour touch-screen. Several vehicle functions can be controlled with just a light touch on the screen, including the temperature settings for the three climate-controlled areas and stereo system adjustment. The system offers unrivalled technology, with its Radio/CD/MP3, USB port, AUX socket and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Freemont guarantees maximum space, comfort and versatility thanks to its 7 seats fitted as standard, with a genuine, spacious third row which is easily accessible because the rear doors open to 90, and the vehicle is equipped with a simple and easily operated seat slide system. The seats of the third row can be folded down with one simple movement to disappear completely as a load floor, leaving the car with a 5 seat configuration and creating a flat and even load platform. The second row and the front passenger power seat can also be folded down completely, allowing 32 different seating configurations. The second row is mounted slightly higher than the first, and the third slightly higher again, ensuring maximum visibility and comfort for all occupants. The second row is also fitted with an available innovative child booster system to make sure that children on board are seated correctly, optimising the seatbelt geometry and guaranteeing greater protection, practicality and comfort. This feature, which makes the Freemont "perfect for families", allows you to raise the seats by up to 102 mm.
On-board comfort is also ensured by the high driving position and the spacious and ergonomic seats, a host of storage compartments, a generous luggage area with two compartments and a flat load platform for an overall capacity of up to 1461 litres (equivalent to more than 10 suitcases). There are over 20 storage compartments, offering significant additional capacity, equal to the size of a city-car boot. The front armrest, for example, is very deep and guarantees maximum capacity. It also houses a USB port, an AUX-in socket (which may also be used for an iPod) and a 12 volt power socket. This means you can listen to music or recharge portable devices whilst ensuring they are concealed when you get out of the car. The passenger seat contains a convenient and easily accessible compartment under its cushion, while the floor in the second row contains two spacious compartments under the mats.
The Freemont is powered by state-of-the-art 2.0L MultiJet 2 engines, with variable geometry, available in 140 HP or 170 HP options, with a manual gearbox and front wheel drive. The Freemont will also soon become available in all wheel drive versions with 170 HP 2.0L MultiJet 2 and 276 HP 3.6L petrol V6 engines, both with automatic gearboxes, to ensure driving comfort and safety at the same time. With the exception of the powerful 3.6 litre unit from the Chrysler Group Pentastar family and its automatic gearbox, all power units are produced and developed by Fiat Powertrain.
The diesel engines have been designed to offer the optimum balance of performance, driving pleasure and fuel consumption. The vehicle's drivability is guaranteed by a maximum torque value (350 Nm) which is reached at 1750 rpm and constant up to 2500 for the 170 HP version (up to 2000 rpm for the 140 HP version). For the normal usage range (from starting the engine up to 4000 rpm), the torque never falls below 300 Nm, avoiding uncomfortable "downshifts" and enhancing driving pleasure. This makes the engine very flexible, with optimum acceleration from 0-100 km/h and optimum maximum speeds: 11 seconds and 195 km/h for the 170 HP model, 12.3 seconds and 180 km/h for the 140 HP model. All of this combined makes the Freemont a dynamic and safe drive.
Fiat engineers have also optimised the vehicle's dynamic performance. The steering system was conceived and manufactured using more direct and precise calibration and offers handling which is in line with the expectations of our European clients. The dynamic handling and comfort have been improved thanks to the vehicle's redesigned suspension, which ensures efficient alignment with European roads. Adjustments have been made to various parts of the suspension design, including stiffening the suspension mountings, improving the front suspension geometry to reduce the roll angle and adjusting the suspension and shock absorber calibration for the optimum combination of comfort and handling which is in line with European standards.
Acoustic comfort is guaranteed by a reduction in vibrations transmitted from the engine to the passenger compartment and the use of sound insulation materials to reduce onboard noise.
Maximum safety is ensured by the Freemont's 6 airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Hill-Holder and Electronic Rollover Mitigation (ERM) fitted as standard on all vehicles. And not forgetting the child boosters and cruise control mentioned earlier, also fitted as standard on all trim levels, to ensure that children are seated correctly and to allow perfect control of cruising speed.
The rollover mitigation system (ERM) uses data received from ESP sensors to detect potential roll risks and intervenes by supplying braking power to individual wheels and adjusting the position of the throttle valve.
The Freemont also has an intelligent system which takes care of your trailer, Trailer Sway Control (TSC). Once its sensors detect that a trailer is swaying, the system intervenes, automatically applying the correct braking action to the wheels in order to keep the trailer under control and avoid dangerous oscillations. With this system, drivers can feel safe and confident when transporting their own loads.
To make it easier for the client to choose and purchase their vehicle, in Italy, the Freemont range will be launched with a simple choice of two trim levels, the Freemont and the Urban, each of which meets specific needs, and two types of diesel 2.0L MultiJet 2 16v engines, a 140 HP and a 170 HP version, to satisfy different performance requirements.
The Freemont trim level has a high level of content as standard: 7 seats, automatic triple-zone climate control, radio/CD/MP3 with 4.3" touch-screen, Trip Computer and steering wheel audio controls, 17" alloy wheels, fog lights, cruise control, TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System), keyless entry/go, child boosters and an anti-theft alarm. The Urban trim level offers even more, particularly in terms of comfort and urban practicality, with added Bluetooth, lighting sensor, leather steering wheel and gear knob, rear parking sensors, roof bars, electrically adjustable driver's seat (6 directions + 4 lumbar adjustment options), folding electric rear-view mirrors, tinted rear windows and electrochromic mirror.
Fiat has come up with important new sales and after-sales proposals to cater to the desires, needs, tastes and aspirations of many different customers. An example? The extended warranty devised by FGA Capital, a finance company specialising in the automotive sector. What's exciting about this solution is the extended duration up to 96 months, the unlimited mileage and the contents: complete "protection" for the components of the car. What's more, you will even receive the same level of coverage for the entire duration of your loan, a distinctive feature on the market.

A vehicle that can be said mini. The original FIAT 500 launched in Italy on July 4, 1957, but only recently has the modern reimagining of this diminutive classic entered the public imagination. But with a mature concept,

this car is able to offer as well as other luxury cars. FIAT company behind all this, the vehicle began in the U.S. marketed it gets warm welcome from consumers. The FIAT 500C is one of few European cars that ventured to the United States in hopes of making a way for itself. FIAT is reentering the U.S. market in a

sector that is booming and the opposite of boring, and into which its infiltrator fits perfectly. So far, the 2012 FIAT 500C is well-liked for its great handling and cutesy exterior, but the automotive industry isnt sure if the 500 will succeed in the U.S. Probably not, but the near 4million sold over the cars 18-year lifespan made it a staple in Europe. The FIAT 500C status there was not unlike that of the original

Mustang or Chryslers first minivan here. With the FIAT 500C being so small, FIAT emphasized safety with the car, fitting it with upgraded electronic stability control and seven airbags. FIAT return to the U.S. is coming via Toluca, Mexico, where the 500 replaces the PT Cruiser on the assembly line. FIAT is putting its warranty money where its mouth is via a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty, four years of unlimited roadside assistance and a 3-year/36,000-mile maintenance program The basic interior design of the FIAT 500C is complemented by a page taken directly from the Mini playbook. In addition to the 14 available interior trim colors, some 50 accessories are available at launch, from interior lighting kits and roof racks to a variety of exterior graphics. Fourteen exterior colors are available for the FIAT 500C, including two reds, yellow, orange, two different browns, and two

greens. The FIAT installs color-matched dashboards on all the 500C, as well as white control panels and steering wheels in Pop/Lounge models, and this blue-on-cream combination really looks great. Another thing to note: Pop and Lounge model 500C have different font on the column gauges (the concentric speedometer and tachometer), and theyre a lot more legible than the smaller font in the Sport.  Also, with the change from a hatchback to a trunk, cargo capacity diminishes from 9.5ft to 5.4ft.  Theres still room for groceries, back packs, etc.  Thankfully the rear seats still fold down for if you need to carry something longer.  Added bonus: the trunk could potentially be propped up, Abarth Cinquento style, although you probab

Do you want to know Chryslers share in this massive car market? A measly 31,000 in 2010 and a projection for just 40,000 in 2011. Therefore, it is only natural that the American carmaker is looking for ways to increase its share in this rapidly expanding market.
